ADULT EDUCATION & ENRICHMENT

Adult Choir

Love to sing? Calling all lovers of song! Choir encompasses great music and the opportunity to be part of a musical community within our greater shul community. Whether you are a sight reader or a “by ear” musician, choir is for you. We sing at synagogue and interdenominational and interfaith community events. Our repertoire ranges from “traditional” to “modern” and includes songs in Hebrew, English, Yiddish and Ladino. Contact Cantor Janet Roth at cantor@summitjcc.org.

Artist in Residence

Thanks to the generosity of the Baraff Fund and other congregants, we are able to welcome a new and exciting Artist in Residence each year. This program provides in-depth exposure to great people, provocative ideas, and spiritual music. Recent artists have included Joe Buchanan, Chava Mirel, Tizmoret, Nefesh Mountain and Rabbi Yosef Goldman. Typically, each year, the artists participate in Shabbat services, share their stories, and then perform in a post-Shabbat concert.

For more information on Artist in Residence, contact Cantor Roth cantor@summitjcc.org.

Jewish Living & Learning

Jewish Living & Learning is a Women's Group program that meets 5 Mondays from September to June (currently via Zoom). The two-hour sessions are generally split into a discussion of Israeli current events and one other topic. Recent topics have included: Hannah Arendt and the Eichmann trial, My Quarrel With Hersh Rasseyner, a 1952 story by Yiddish writer Chaim Grade, and comparing Benjamin Franklin's 13 virtues to Pirkei Avot (Ethics of the Fathers). Contact Faith Feuerman faith@summitjcc.org for more details.

Shabbat in Harmony

Not only does COS-SJCC have a reputation for friendliness within the congregation, but it also reaches out to other congregations in the area. At least once a year, we have a Shabbat service together with the two other Summit-based synagogues, Temple Beth Hatikvah (Reconstructionist), and Temple Sinai (Reform). The rabbis and cantors of the three synagogues conduct a communal Friday evening service with musical selections sung by the combined congregational choirs.
