SOCIAL EVENTS

Scotch & Siddur

What better way to learn about and discuss the Jewish perspective on modern issues than with a glass of single malt? Several evenings a year members of the Men’s Club gather with the Rabbi at one of the member’s homes to sample new and old favorite scotches, socialize, and hear what the traditional Jewish texts have to say about what’s in the news.

Wine & Wisdom

So the men don’t have all the fun, Women's Group sponsors evenings of Wine and Wisdom at members' homes where the Rabbi shares the Jewish perspective on a variety of topics over glasses of chardonnay, pinot noir, and other varietals.

Latkes & Vodkas Holiday Gala

For several years pre-Covid, we had a big Hanukkah celebration in our social hall and enjoyed holiday-inspired food and drink while listening to great music from renowned musicians. The inaugural event starred the Grammy-winning jazz ensemble Vince Giordano and the Nighthawks.

Cabaret & Cabernet

An annual Saturday night event that showcases the many talents of our community. Members sing, play instruments, and tell jokes all while attendees get to sample and order wines carefully chosen by a noted local wine store—definitely NOT Manischewitz!

Other Social Gatherings

COS-SJCC strives to connect its members and offers several social opportunities that go beyond religion.  Over the years COS-SJCC has hosted concerts by Grammy-winning artists, run multi-table casino nights, and hosted the “Big Quiz Thing,“ NYC’s long-running trivia and entertainment spectacular. And, both our ELC and JLC have parent social committees who organize several social events throughout the year.

Shabbat Under the Stars

Every so often, the congregation leaves the sanctuary to celebrate Shabbat. We congregate on the lawn. Please join us...

  • The Cantor leads us in Shabbat songs

  • Cooks prepare hot dogs, hamburgers, chicken, and all the fixins' nearby

  • Soft drinks, beer, and wine are available

  • The atmosphere is informal  (and so are the clothes)

  • The Rabbi makes us all feel welcome!
