When the entire world is struggling to get its bearings, and we try to turn the page on 2020, how do we, in the words of the Reverend Dr. King, "hew out of the mountain of despair the stone of hope"? We welcome guest speaker Dr. Betty Adams for Shabbat in Harmony. Dr. Adams is an author, retired university professor, and associate minister at Fountain Baptist Church.
Please join us for a fantastic and innovative program featuring Dr. Betty Adams and for the first time ever the debut of the choirs from the three Summit synagogues, Temple Sinai, Congregation Ohr Shalom-SJCC and Congregation Beth Hatikvah to honor and remember Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
This year’s MLK service will include all three congregation’s choirs and a presentation by Dr. Betty Livingston Adams, the author of Black Christian Women’s Activism: Seeking Social Justice in a Northern Suburb. Dr. Adams, a scholar and Summit resident, will share stories from her book which details the lives of ordinary African American women who made extraordinary contributions, a powerful local story with national implications.
Additionally, the 3 choirs will be performing We Rise, A song of community and fellowship.
Words and Music by Batya Levine
Choral Arrangement by Cantor Janet Ilene Roth
We can't wait to "see" you on Zoom! Thank you for supporting this special program!
