USY

USY is a youth organization for Conservative Jewish Congregations, serving teens in grades 9 through 12. Many lasting, best friendships develop amongst teens in USY.USY is a great way for our teens to interact with the Jewish community beyond the walls of the SJCC. One of the impressive aspects of USY is that our teens primarily run the group, with support and guidance from our youth advisor, and a little behind-the-scenes help from parents. These teens elect their own peers to leadership positions, recommend their own activities and then take responsibility for planning and running the events

Jay Sweifach is our Youth Advisor to the Summit chapter. Jay has a wonderful rapport with our teens and shares his impressive professional background in Jewish and Secular Education coupled with Social Services. Jay is also an accomplished musician who performs regularly in our area!.

Click here to see the current USY Activity Schedule *. Please note, that events are still being planned so many dates for local events are not included in this letter. This is not an all-inclusive calendar. The USY board will communicate dates via e-mail and phone chains.

Please encourage your teens to join USY. To join, just return the completed USY Membership Form * and dues. It’s never too late to join.

Parental involvement is essential for the success of our USY program. The committee helps coordinate the activities; however help is needed with chaperoning and driving to events, both regional and local. Assistance with some of the traditional programs such as USY Shabbat and the Annual Purim Carnival is also needed.

Our teens will have phone and email chains for notifying members of event details and new activities as they are planned. We will also provide occasional updates directly to parents so that they, too, have notice of dates and details of chapter events. Please send email to Amy Ashinsky with your current address if you want to be on the mailing list. Please contact Jay Sweifach with specific event questions.
