The Light, a publication of the Jewish Community Center of Summit, NJ, is issued three times per year. It is not a "temple bulletin". Each issue carries a theme associated with a seasonal or special event. Various forms of writing and graphics are published. Written material includes researched articles on politics, history, sociology, religion, as well as editorials, poetry, and recurring features (e.g., web page information, personal essays, book reviews). Photos and graphics (both commercially available and original) highlight the contents.
We have published The Light for more than nine years. Normally, each issue contains 12 pages. We carry no advertising. Our policy is to include material only from our congregants (except for some graphics used on the cover). No reprints are accepted. To date, from within a congregation of about 350 families, 100 individuals have contributed to the magazine. We actively encourage new contributors. Our covers contain artwork both from outside sources (with permission) and from our congregants.
Normally, our covers as well as the magazine contents are printed in black and white. However, we have had four issues which carry 4-color covers. All editing, design, production and distribution is done by our editorial board and its staff, all of whom are congregants.
