SJCC Sisterhood
The Sisterhood of the SJCC is involved in activities that
benefit the lives of our women, enrich the congregation,
support the religious school, and enhance the programs for
our youth. This vital organization within our synagogue
provides educational, cultural, and social opportunities that
help increase our knowledge of Judaism and create a sense
of belonging. Members of our Sisterhood span a wide range
of interests, ages, and backgrounds. We schedule our
meetings and events at varying days and times to
accommodate the individual lifestyles of our members.
Several general meetings throughout the year are open
to all Sisterhood members and feature speakers who discuss
topics of interest to women today. In addition, we have an
annual welcome back brunch where new and long time
members can meet and mingle.
We provide a wide range of invaluable services for the
SJCC: arranging meals for bereaved congregants sitting
shiva; planning childcare for our young children during the
High Holidays; providing supplies and oversight so that our
students can create beautiful Sukkah decorations; and
purchasing delicious refreshments for Simchat Torah and
Purim services. Sisterhood also sponsors diverse educational
programming, including our monthly Jewish Family
Living class that teaches women how to bring even more
Judaism into their homes. A highlight of our year is
Sisterhood Shabbat, when our members conduct all parts of
the Friday night, Saturday morning, and Saturday
afternoon services. Many of our multifaceted activities also
raise funds, including our Goods and Services auction, our
annual sale of delicious baked goods for the High Holidays,
and our Mishloach Manot program, which offers SJCC
members the opportunity to send tasty Purim treats to
other congregants.
Sisterhood is always seeking new members and
encourages everyone to contribute time and ideas. We are
affiliated with Women's League for Conservative Judaism
and participate in Branch and National events and
activities. For more information about the Sisterhood of the
SJCC, please contact our President,
